Pittsburgh Steelers sign DE Roy Philon

The Pittsburgh Steelers added defensive end depth in Roy Philon, his agent confirmed to PennLive He was signed to a futures contract.His signingwas first reported byThe Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.Philon, 24, played in four preseason games with the Steelers in 2014, when he was an undrafted rookie free agent out of Louisville. Pittsburgh released him on Aug. 30, 2014.He has spent time with the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions since, appearing in three preseason games for Detroit last season.The 6-foot-3, 291-pound Philon has never played in an NFL regular season game.Behind starters Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt, Philon joins L.T. Walton and Caushaud Lyons as the only defensive ends contracted to the Steelers for next season. Cam Thomas and Clifton Geathers, who missed all of last season, are set to become free agents.Just how big a share of the DE snaps Heyward, Tuitt carryNose tackle Steve McLendon, who has also played end, is up for free agency too.In four years at Lousiville, Philon made 117 tackles, 24.5 for a loss and eight sacks.A message to Philon's agent was not immediately returned way forward for the Steelers defense
