Force goalkeeper Braden Host has been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse

The Falcons open the Southern Conference slate at home against VMI, Sat., Mar. 17, at noon. The teams are meeting for the 15th time in program history; the Falcons lead the series, 13 1, with VMI getting their only win in Lexington, Va., in the 2014 season.

LOCATION CHANGE Due to Air Force Football’s Spring Game being hosted at Falcon Stadium this year, the Falcons and Keydets will meet at Cadet Lacrosse Stadium, on the USAFA Athletics practice grounds. A live stream is not available for the matchup. Fan parking will be available at the upper east lot of Cadet Field House.

LAST TIME AGAINST VMI Last season, Chris Walsch led Air Force to victory over VMI with a hat trick performance in conference action, in Lexington, Va. At the final whistle Air Force led VMI, 14 4. The Falcon defense held VMI to only 12 shots on the game, while Air Force tallied 55 shots. The Falcon defense caused seven turnovers, led by two time SoCon Defensive Player of the Week, Brandon Jones, with two caused turnovers and a season high 11 ground balls. The Falcons picked up twice as many ground balls, scooping up 35 to the Keydets’ 17. Trent Harper dominated the face off X, winning 14 of 16 .875 face off attempts on the day.

NEXT UP Air Force continues conference action at home as they host Mercer, Mar. 24, at noon. Last season Air Force beat Mercer, 14 6, in Macon, Ga. The Falcons are 7 0 against the Bears.

LAST WEEK Air Force split a pair of games in Michigan last week. A fourth period surge lifted the University of Michigan to a 14 9 victory over the Falcons, Friday evening in non conference play in Ann Arbor, Mich. Senior Andrew Tien notched his first hat trick of the season in the loss. In the following game, Nick Hruby and Cameron Carter led the Falcons with a hat trick apiece in the 9 7 win over Detroit Mercy, Sunday afternoon Quincy Mauger Jersey, in non conference action at Titan Field, Detroit, Mich. The Falcons snapped a three game losing streak with the win.

AIR FORCE AT A GLANCE The Falcons are led by senior team captain Hruby with 13 goals and two assists for 15 points on the season. Hruby leads the team in shots and shots on goal with 44 and 26, respectively. Hruby has two hat tricks on the season, including a conference and personal best six goal game against Marist. Teammates Jack Flynn, Roman Rohrbach, Matthew Schwartz, Carter and Tein, have logged a hat trick apiece. Trey Lervick leads the team with four assists.

At the face off X, Harper holds a .553 faceoff win percentage 84 152 . Harper leads the team with 38 ground balls this season. Sophomore LSM Jeremiah Hemme leads the squad with eight caused turnovers. Hemme also notched a goal with the long stick against Boston University. Freshman goalkeeper Braden Host is starting to find his fit in the saddle, recording a career high 13 saves in the Falcons’ last matchup against Detroit Mercy. Host holds a save percentage of .517.

HOST WINS WEEKLY SOCON HONOR Air Force goalkeeper Braden Host has been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse defensive player of the week, for all competition from March 6 12. Host earned the start in goal in both of the Falcons’ contests on the week, posting 18 total saves, an 8.00 goals against average and a .600 save percentage in Air Force’s 1 1 week. The freshman from Aurora, Colorado, made five saves and allowed five goals in 30 minutes of work in a 14 9 loss at Michigan on Friday, departing at halftime with the game tied at 5. Host went the distance against Detroit Mercy two days later, making a season best 13 saves and allowing just seven goals in the 9 7 win. Host faced a barrage of shots on the week, facing 21 in just a half of play at Michigan before seeing 35 against the Titans.
